KATHMANDU: CPN-UML has finalized the list of lawmakers to be elected under the proportional representation (PR) system for the House of Representatives.
A meeting of the party’s Secretariat held at the residence of party chair KP Sharma Oli finalized the names on Saturday.
According to UML secretary Mahesh Basnet, the meeting selected candidates from different social groups in line with the principle of inclusiveness.
In the House of Representatives election held on March 5, the UML secured 1,759,172 votes under the proportional representation category. Based on this vote share, the party has been allocated 16 PR seats in the lower house. The party won nine seats under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system. This brings the total number of lawmakers of the party in the new House of Representatives to 25.
As per the constitution, one-third of the lawmakers in Parliament must be women. Since not a single woman leader of the party won under the FPTP system, the party has picked 10 women lawmakers under the PR system. These are the lawmakers picked by the party:
