NC’s Nischal Rai elected from Ilam-1

KATHMANDU: Nischal Rai of Nepali Congress (NC) has been elected to the House of Representatives from the Ilam-1 constituency.

According to the final counting results, Rai received 14,543 votes. His closest competitor, Binod Nembang Limbu of the Sharam Sanskirit Party (SSP), secured 13,632, while CPN-UML Kajiman Kagate got 11,966 votes.

The three were locked in a closely contested race, with the lead changing hands during the count before Rai ultimately prevailed.

Bimal Gadal of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) received 9,160, while Rana Bahadur Rai of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) got 7,665.

UML’s Mahesh Basnet had won the seat in 2022.
