KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has recommended that the government declare three days of public holiday for the upcoming House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5. The EC has proposed public holidays for March 4, 5, and 6.
EC Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai told Himal Press over the phone that a three-day holiday is necessary to ensure smooth management of the elections being held across the country in a single phase.
“We have recommended public holidays for March 4 to 6,” he added. “Schools and other offices must be closed on these days to facilitate the transportation of election materials, mobilization of staff, and ensure smooth movement for voters.”
A majority of polling centers will be set up on school premises.
The EC had also proposed a three-day public holiday for the 2022 elections.
