KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that it is possible to hold elections in the Himalayan and hilly districts as scheduled on March 5.
Speaking in Solukhumbu on Thursday during an on-site inspection of election preparations, security arrangements, and geographical challenges in Himalayan districts, Karki said that elections could be conducted in Solukhumbu and other Himalayan districts on the scheduled date.
“There is no alternative to the March 5 elections if the country if we are to free the country from the cycle of instability. Considering the challenges of the Himalayan region, the government has made all necessary arrangements for the elections,” she added.
The Prime Minister urged voters, political parties, and candidates to remain confident that the elections would be held in a peaceful, free, fair, and fraud-free manner. She also directed all concerned agencies to concentrate their efforts on the polls.
Karki also directed officials not to compromise on security at remote polling centers in the Himalayan region and to mobilize additional security personnel if necessary.
Out of 123 polling stations in Solukumbu, seven are located in the Himalayan region.
