KATHMANDU: The government has extended the term of a high-level investigation commission probing the incidents of September 8 and 9.

A cabinet meeeting held in Singha Durbar on Monday decided to extend the commission’s term by 25 days, according to Government Spokesperson and Minister for Home Affairs Om Prakash Aryal.

The commission has been tasked with investigating the death of 76 people and losses worth billions of rupees on public and private property during the Gen Z protests of September 8 and 9.

The state-owned Gorkhapatra daily reported on Monday that the commission was preparing to submit its report to the government this week.

This is the third extension to the commission’s term. On January 22, the government extended the commission’s term by 20 days. Before that, the commission’s term had been extended by a month.

The interim government formed the commission led by former Judge Gauri Bahadur Karki on September 21.

Foerm AIG of Nepal Police, Bigya Raj Sharma, and Legal expert Bishweshar Prasad Bhandari are the members of the commission.
