KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has said that as a party that believes in democracy, the UML will participate in the upcoming elections under any circumstances.
Speaking to journalists at Chandragadhi Airport upon his arrival in his home district, Jhapa, on Monday, Oli, however, said the law and order situation must improve.
Oli reached Jhapa for the first time since his government was toppled by the Gen Z movement of September 8 and 9, which claimed 76 lives. Following the protest, he was barred from leaving Kathmandu by a judicial inquiry commission probing the incidents of September 8 and 9. His travel restriction was recently lifted.
According to the election program published by the Election Commission, candidates are required to file their nominations on Tuesday. Oli is contesting the elections from the Jhapa-5 constituency.
