KATHMANDU: The Sher Bahadur Deuba-led faction of the Nepali Congress (NC) has filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court seeking the annulment of the Election Commission’s decision to recognize a new Central Working Committee led by Gagan Kumar Thapa.
Speaking to journalists at the Supreme Court premises, NC leader Min Bishwakarma confirmed that the petition has been registered. He said the decision made by the Election Commission (EC) was unconstitutional and contrary to prevailing laws and the party statute.
“The decision is mala fide and influenced by various inducements. It goes against the Constitution, the law, and the party statute. Therefore, we have filed a petition seeking its annulment,” Bishwakarma said.
Leaders, including former acting president Purna Bahadur Khadka, had reached the Supreme Court on Sunday morning to submit the petition.
Election Commission, NC President Thapa, Vice President Bishwa Prkash Sharma, and the Central Working Committee elected by the 2nd Special General Convention have been named defendants in the petition.
