NC split won’t affect elections: Dahal

KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and Nepali Communist Party (NCP) Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that the split within the Nepali Congress (NC) will have no impact on the elections.

“Although questions have arisen about the fate of the elections following the recent developments within NC, there is no possibility of the polls being affected,” Dahal said.

He added that a major party splitting on the eve of an election was not good for anyone.

“After discussions with government representatives, the Election Commission and security agencies, I have been assured that the NC split would not affect the elections,” Dahal added.

The House of Representatives elections are scheduled for March 5.

Urging people to remain confident that elections would be held, Dahal said all political parties were focused on the polls. Dahal also said his party had already begun picking candidates for the first-past-the-post (FPTP) voting.
