KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and the Ujyalo Nepal Party have reached an agreement to merge.
According to party sources, the understanding includes appointing Kulman Ghising as a vice-chairperson of the RSP. In addition, 18 leaders from his team will be placed on the party’s closed proportional representation list for the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5.
RSP Chairperson Rabi Lamichhane and Ujyalo Nepal Party leader Kulman Ghising are signing a formal agreement for party unification later today.
The development comes just days after Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah joined the RSP. The party has already agreed to project Shah as its prime ministerial candidate.
With this merger, three prominent faces of alternative politics—Rabi Lamichhane, Balen Shah, and Kulman Ghising—will now contest the election under the RSP banner.
