NC begins electoral campaigning in Sindhupalchowk without picking candidates

KATHMANDU: Even though parties are yet to finalize candidates for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, Nepali Congress (NC) leader Mohan Bahadur Basnet has already begun attending election rallies.

Basnet attended an election rally organized by the party’s Sindhupalchok-1 Constituency Committee in Bahrabise on Friday. The rally saw a strong presence of district-level leaders and cadres from the party. Candidates recommended by the district party committee were also present at the programme.

The NC’s constituency committee had recommended Basnet as the sole candidate for the Sindhupalchowk-1 seat of the House of Representatives. However, the district committee has added two more names – district committee president Janga Bahadur Lama and Mahendra Lama – and forwarded the list to the party’s central office.

The NC is currently engaged in preparations for its 15th general convention to be held in Kathmandu from January 10 to 12. However, it remains uncertain whether the convention will take place on the announced dates. As a result, the party has been unable to finalize candidates for the election.

Sindhupalchok has two House of Representatives seats. In the 2022 elections, Maoist Center’s Madhav Sapkota was elected from Sindhupachowk-1, while Basnet won Sindhupalchow-2 seat.

The NC and the Maoist Center had formed an alliance for the election.
