KATHMANDU: KP Sharma Oli is on course to become the chairperson of the CPN-UML for a third time, if initial counting results are anything to go by. Most of the leaders in his panel are ahead in the vote count.
According to the latest updates, Oli has secured 489 votes, while his closest rival, Ishwar Pokhrel, has received 177 votes. The margin between the two contenders has widened to 312 votes.
Voting to elect the new leadership, which began at 10 am on Wednesday, concluded at 7 am on Thursday. Counting began soon after. The final results are expected before 2 pm, according to party leaders.
Out of the total 2,263 convention representatives eligible to vote, 2,227 cast their votes.
