RPP’s Kanchan Bichchha loses Madhesh Assembly seat

KATHMANDU: Madhesh Assembly member Kanchan Bichchha of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has been relieved of her position.

Bichchha was a minister in the cabinet of Saroj Kumar Yadav, who resigned before his confidence vote in the Madhesh Province Assembly on Wednesday. She had joined the cabinet without an official decision from her party.

The Madhesh Province Assembly Secretariat issued a notification of her dismissal on Friday.

Although RPP had directed Bichchha to immediately withdraw from the government, which was formed as per Article 168(3) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015, she defied the order. The party suspended Bichchha for six months and subsequently wrote to the Madhesh Province Assembly Secretariat on November 28, requesting termination of her position as a provincial assembly member.

The Province Assembly Secretariat said it published the notice of dismissal as per Rules 190 and 191 of the Province Assembly Rules, 2018.
