KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) continued its upward momentum on Wednesday, extending its gaining run to a fourth consecutive session.
The benchmark closed 9.61 points higher at 2,665.60 after a volatile session. It marked the longest stretch of gains since August 24, when the market had snapped an eight-day winning streak.
Although the index dipped to an intraday low of 2,648.51 points initially, it rebounded strongly and ultimately closed the session 0.36% higher.
The prices of 142 scrips advanced during the session, while 104 declined and 11 remained unchanged. Turnover improved to Rs 6.69 billion as 13.62 million units changed hands through 91,705 transactions.
NRN Infrastructure & Development Ltd led the turnover chart, with Rs 624.34 million worth of shares traded. Shivam Cement followed at Rs 267.58 million, while Himalayan Distillery Ltd recorded a turnover of Rs 234.16 million.
Sectoral performance was mixed, as eight of the 13 sub-indices closed higher, while five ended in negative territory. The Hotels & Tourism sub-index logged the highest gain of 0.99%. Manufacturing & Processing and Trading followed with gains of 0.74% and 0.68%, respectively. The Non-life Insurance sub-index, on the other hand, posted the steepest decline of 0.33%.
