KATHMANDU: Former Vice President of Nepali Congress (NC) Bimlendra Nidhi has said that the party should prioritize the upcoming House of Representatives election.
Speaking at an event organized by the Nepal Women’s Association on Thursday, Nidhi said the party should not rush to hold its 15th General Convention now that elections have already been announced. He argued that the immediate priority is the parliamentary election and that the convention should be held only after the polls.
Nidhi said the party’s general convention should take place in April next year and urged the leadership to begin preparations accordingly.
NC leaders are divided over the timing of the upcoming general convention of the party. Leaders close to the establishment faction are for holding the convention only after the election. Others, however, say the convention must be held before the election as stipulated in the party statute.
