UML calls parliamentary party meeting of dissolved House

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML, which has been calling for the reinstatement of the House of Representatives, has called a meeting of its parliamentary party of the dissolved House.

According to Mahesh Bartaula, the former chief whip of the party, the meeting has been convened for 1 pm on November 18.

“I would like to inform that the meeting of the CPN-UML parliamentary party will be convened at 1 pm on November 18 at the party’s central office in Chyasal to discuss the current national situation and the role we must play to ensure a democratic and constitutional resolution,” Bartaula said.

The UML has been protesting the dissolution of the House of Representatives, calling it unconstitutional, and demanding its reinstatement. In line with this, the party has announced a series of demonstrations at rural municipalities on November 11 and at district headquarters on November 15. A large rally has also been planned in the Kathmandu Valley for November 22.

A writ petition challenging the dissolution of the lower house is currently under consideration at the Supreme Court.

To intensify pressure for reinstatement, the UML has also begun collecting signatures from its lawmakers. The Nepali Congress has launched a similar signature campaign.

The interim government led by Sushila Karki, formed after the Gen Z protests of September 8 and 9, recommended for dissolution of the House of Representatives on Sept 12 and announced elections for March 5.
