KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has said that the upcoming election for the House of Representatives, scheduled for March 5, must be made successful to advance further and strengthen the constitution and democracy.
Speaking at a programme organised on Sunday to mark the first anniversary of Public Service Broadcasting (PSB) Nepal, President Paudel said the election should be made successful by paying attention to the aspirations of the younger generation for good governance and development, and by working to make the constitution and democracy more progressive and robust.
President Paudel urged the media to remain dedicated to fulfilling their important responsibility of informing people about positive changes, development initiatives, prospects, and opportunities in the country. “Since the right to access truthful, factual, and reliable information is people’s fundamental right, the dissemination of accurate and fact-based information is the duty, responsibility, and obligation of the media,” he added.
President Paudel also stated that it is the duty of the mass media to protect the public from the dangers of being misled by confusion, falsehoods, and misleading information spread through the misuse of technology.
On the occasion, PSB Nepal announced the launch of its new television channel, NTV World – the English channel of Nepal Television (NTV).
Also speaking on the occasion, Minister for Communication and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel said that the nature of content being broadcast plays a vital role in advancing the media sector professionally, and called for greater attention in this regard.
