BEIJING: Twelve Nepali students studying at various universities in China have been selected for the Belt and Road Ambassador Scholarship 2025.
Issuing a statement, the Belt and Road Ambassador Scholarship Management Committee of Overseas Chinese Charity Foundation of China said the 12 students were chosen from among 144 applicants currently pursuing undergraduate, postgraduate, MD, and PhD degrees in China.
The annual scholarship program is part of China’s initiative to promote educational exchange among countries participating in the BRI.
The selection process was jointly conducted by the Embassy of Nepal in Beijing and the Overseas Chinese Charity Foundation of China.
Chandan Kumar Sah, a Master’s degree student at Beihang University, received the first prize worth 10,000 Chinese yuan, while the remaining 11 students were each awarded second prizes of 5,000 yuan.
Nepal and China share centuries-old cultural and people-to-people ties. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1955, the two countries have maintained friendly cooperation based on peaceful coexistence, mutual understanding, and shared development.
As an important partner in China’s Belt and Road Initiative, Nepal has benefited from increasing educational collaboration under the framework. Each year, dozens of Nepali students pursue higher education in fields such as medicine, engineering, information technology, agriculture, and social sciences at Chinese universities.
