ITAHARI: The Koshi Province Government has decided to freeze 25% of the fiscal budget and redirect the funds for repair and reconstruction.
A cabinet meeting held on Monday made the decision.
Minister for Internal Affairs and Law and Government Spokesperson, Rewati Raman Bhandari, said that 25% of the budget allocated for the current fiscal year will be frozen. Bhandari added that the cabinet has decided to redirect funds toward the reconstruction of government offices damaged during the protests and arson incidents of September 8 and 9, as well as for repairing damage caused by recent floods and landslides.
“The frozen budget will be released only for repair and reconstruction works,” he added.
The provincial government has begun accelerating preparations to utilize the revised budget for reconstruction purposes, according to Bhandari.
Meanwhile, the cabinet has appointed Milan Acharya as Secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development and Indra Sapkota as Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism, Forests and Environment.
