Bagmati Speaker Pathak submits resignation

KATHMANDU: Bhuvan Kumar Pathak, the Speaker of the Bagmati Province Assembly, has resigned from his position.

In his resignation letter addressed to the Deputy Speaker, Pathak said he was deeply moved by the tragic incident of September 8 when nationalist Nepalis lost their lives during a protest. Pathak said in the letter that he felt it was inappropriate to remain in office after the incident, going against the desires of the people and the sentiments of the youth.

“I had announced my resignation via social media on September 9 itself. But due to technical reasons, I was unable to complete the legal process immediately,” Pathak said. “Today, as per the Constitution of Nepal, 2015, and the Provincial Assembly Rules, 2017, I have formally submitted my resignation.”

Pathak was elected to the provincial assembly from the pro-monarchy Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) under the proportional representation system.
