Police ask escaped inmates, detainees to surrender

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Police has requested all inmates and detainees who escaped during Tuesday’s violent protest to contact the nearest police offices immediately.

Thousands of inmates and detainees escaped from different prisons and police stations during the protest.

Issuing a statement on Thursday, the Nepal Police headquarters urged all escaped prisoners to come forward and report to their respective district police offices, local police units or other security agencies.

“Many accused held in custody and inmates serving court-mandated sentences have escaped from prisons. We request these individuals to contact the district police offices, local police units, or other local security offices without delay,” the statement said.
