KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Center) Chairperson and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that the demands raised by Gen Z youths should be addressed through the constitution and the existing parliamentary process.

Issuing a statement on Thursday from an undisclosed location, Dahal blamed the current crisis on the “unnatural and unconstitutional midnight alliance” between the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML 14 months ago. He accused the coalition government of protecting vested interests threatened by his administration’s anti-corruption and good governance measures.

Dahal warned that seeking political exits outside the framework of the constitution and legislature would only benefit regressive forces. “Our clear position is that the alternative to democracy is a more advanced and consolidated democracy, and the alternative to republic is a stronger republic,” Dahal said in the statement. “The demands raised by the Gen Z generation were neither against democracy and the constitution nor in favor of dissolving parliament. We are confident their concerns can be addressed within the constitution and the current parliamentary process.”

Dahal also said any solution sought outside the constitution and parliament will ultimately favor regression.

“We believe the protesting youths will take this matter seriously and shape their future strategies accordingly,” Dahal said.
