Nepse sheds 6.55 points; turnover improves slightly to Rs 5.14 billion

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its losing run for a third straight session on Thursday, the last trading day of the week, closing 6.55 points lower at 2,719.77.

This was the lowest close since July 9, when the bourse had ended at 2,705.9 points.

Out of five trading days this week, the benchmark index closed in positive territory only once, when it gained a nominal 12.03 points. Overall, the Nepse index shed 61.23 points during the week.

Unit prices of 165 scrips declined during the session, while 85 advanced and one remained unchanged. Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd recorded the highest turnover of the day, with shares worth Rs 353.57 million traded. Bindhyabasini Hydropower Development Company Ltd and Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd followed with turnovers of Rs 190 million and Rs 176.9 million, respectively.

Despite the decline, total market turnover improved to Rs 5.14 billion on Thursday. A total of 12.7 million units of shares were traded through 69,034 transactions during the session.

Except for the Trading and Mutual Fund sub-indices, which posted nominal gains, all sectoral indices ended in negative territory.
