KATHMANDU: A total of 26 political parties have registered with the Election Commission (EC) to participate in the by-election in the Rupandehi-3 seat of the House of Representatives.
The EC had given parties between August 6 and 13 to register for the by-election.
Of the applications received from 27 parties during the period, only 26 parties met the legal requirements and were officially registered.
According to the EC, the application of the Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) was rejected as it failed to submit the required documents.
As per Article 271 of the Constitution of Nepal and Section 48 of the Political Parties Act, 2017, parties must register themselves with the EC before participating in elections.
The Rupandehi-3 seat became vacant after the demise of Deepak Bohora of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), who was elected in the 2022 general election.
