Inmate flees from Jhumka prison in Sunsari

ITAHARI: A prisoner escaped from the Jhumka Prison in Sunsari on Wednesday morning.

According to police, Rupak Poudel Khatri (28) of Diprung Chuichumma Rural Municipality-2 in Khotang, was serving a sentence in a rape case. He reportedly climbed over the 16-foot-high perimeter wall of the prison’s B Block using bamboo items from the prison’s handicraft workshop.

DIG Ishwar Karki, chief of the Koshi Provincial Police Office, Biratnagar, confirmed the incident. “We received information about the incident on Tuesday night, though the exact time is not clear,” Karki told Himal Press over the phone. “We have mobilized our teams to nab him.”

Jhumka Prison is the regional correctional facility for Koshi Province.
