ITAHARI: The death toll from a road accident at Jaluwatol along the East-West Highway in Bhokraha Narsingh Rural Municipality-3 of Sunsari has reached four.
According to DSP Yogaraj Khatri, the spokesperson for the District Police Office, Sunsari, the fatalities were among those critically injured in the crash.
The accident occurred at around 8 am on Monday when a microbus operating on the Biratnagar–Rajbiraj route collided head-on with a bus serving the Kakarbhitta–Diktel route.
The deceased have been identified as Shankar Mandal (35) from Mahadeva Rural Municipality-6 of Saptari, Laxman Sada (70) from Koshi Rural Municipality-6 of Sunsari, Ashok Yadav from Biratnagar of Morang, and an unidentified woman of around 45.
Preliminary investigations show that all the victims were passengers in the microbus.
All four died while undergoing treatment at local hospitals, said DSP Khatri.
Twenty-three injured are receiving treatment at Golden Hospital, Biratnagar; Birat Nursing Home, Biratnagar; and Global Cardio and Neuro Hospital, Sunsari.
