KATHMANDU: Nepal and China signed four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to implement different projects in Nepal with Chinese assistance.
Finance Secretary Ghanashyam Upadhyay and Chen Xiaodong, chairperson of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), signed three MoUs amid a ceremony at the finance ministry on Monday.
These MoUs will facilitate the construction of a bone marrow transplant center at the BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital in Chitwan, a feasibility study for expanding the Civil Servants Hospital in Kathmandu, and capacity development of over 1,200 Nepali civil servants to through participation in bilateral and multilateral training seminars organized by various Chinese institutions.
Likewise, CIDCA Chairperson Xiaodong and Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Executive Director Hitenra Dev Shakya signed an MoU for feasibility study of the Rasuwagadhi–Kerung cross-border transmission line.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Bishnu Prasad Paudel held a meeting with Chairperson Xiaodong at the ministry. According to the finance minister’s secretariat, the meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations, ongoing and future development partnerships, and implementation status of Chinese-assisted projects.
China has also expressed commitment to support the reconstruction of physical infrastructure damaged by recent floods in Rasuwa district.
In response, Finance Minister Paudel said post-disaster reconstruction is a high priority for Nepal.
