LUMBINI: The Embassy of India in Nepal, in collaboration with the Lumbini Development Trust, organised a mass yoga demonstration in Lumbini on Thursday to celebrate the 11th International Day of Yoga.

The event, held at the sacred birthplace of Lord Buddha, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, saw the participation of over 500 yoga enthusiasts from the region, according to a statement issued by the Embassy of India.

Province Chief of Lumbini Krishna Bahadur Gharti and Minister for Youth and Sports Teju Lal Chaudhary attended the event as chief guests. Both expressed appreciation to the Indian Embassy for strengthening cultural ties between Nepal and India through such initiatives.

Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava highlighted yoga’s transformation from an ancient Indian practice into a global movement, especially since the United Nations declared June 21 as International Yoga Day in 2014. “Lumbini, a symbol of peace and harmony, was a fitting location to celebrate yoga’s timeless values,” he added.

The event is part of a series of programs that the Embassy of India is organising across Nepal to mark the 11th International Day of Yoga.
