SURKHET: The meeting of the Karnali Provincial Assembly scheduled for Sunday for the presentation of the budget for fiscal year 2025/26 has become uncertain due to a dispute between the ruling coalition and the main opposition CPN (Maoist Center).
Accusing the government of attempting to table the budget without making the projects listed in the Provincial Project Bank public, the Maoist Center has said that it will not attend the assembly meeting for budget presentation. The party has demanded that the government disclose all proposed projects in a transparent manner.
Earlier, a meeting of the Maoist Center parliamentary party decided not to attend the session until the budget incorporates plans recommended by districts, in line with the commitment made by Chief Minister Yam Lal Kandel.
The Business Advisory Committee of the provincial assembly has not been able to convene due to the absence of the Maoist Center’s chief whip.
Meanwhile, the provincial cabinet has already passed the budget for the fiscal year 2025/26.
