KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives, which has been obstructed since May 27, could not convene at the scheduled time on Wednesday as well.

The meeting of the House of Representatives, which convened for about seven minutes before opposition lawmakers started their protest on Monday, has not been held ever since.

Speaker Ghimire held discussions with the chief whips and whips of both ruling and opposition parties on Wednesday to resolve the House stalemate.

“It doesn’t seem like the House will convene on Wednesday either. The situation remains uncertain as parties are sticking to their respective positions,” an official from the Federal Parliament Secretariat said.

Opposition parties, including the CPN (Maoist Centre), Rastriya Swatantra Party, and CPN (Unified Socialist), are firm on their demand for forming an investigation committee against Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak regarding the visit visa controversy. However, the ruling parties, CPN-UML and Nepali Congress (NC), have been insisting that a separate investigation is not needed as the Constitution for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) is already investigating the issue.

Although the opposition allowed the government to present the budget for the fiscal year 2025/26 on May 29, discussion on the budget has not been possible because of the protest.
