Restricted areas expanded further in Kathmandu*

KATHMANDU: The District Administration Office, Kathmandu, has expanded the restricted areas in Kathmandu Valley in response to the ongoing protest of pro-monarchy forces.

Chief District Officer Rishi Ram Tiwari issued a prohibition order on Sunday, stating that protests are now allowed only in three areas of Kathmandu: the Sifal grounds, the area south of the Koteshwor footbridge toward Balkumari, and Balkhu.

“Starting Monday, activities such as processions, demonstrations, sit-ins, and gatherings are banned in other areas for up to two months,” the notice read.

A similar prohibition was enforced around the Narayanhiti Palace Museum until July 8 on Friday.

The local administration typically enforces such orders in sensitive areas like Singha Durbar, the Parliament Building, the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, and the President’s Office in Shital Niwas.

The recent expansion of restricted zones has been seen as a response to the expanding demonstration of pro-monarchy forces.
