KATHMANDU: New Zealand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Winston Peters paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Wednesday.

During the meeting held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, the two held discussions on promoting bilateral interests, mutual relations and multilateral cooperation. Both leaders agreed that there are significant opportunities for collaboration in agriculture, tourism, education, trade and investment.

Prime Minister Oli told the New Zealand Deputy Minister that his government was prioritizing stability, development, good governance, social justice and social transformation in line with the national aspiration of a “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali”.

Deputy Prime Minister Peters underlined the need to enhance cooperation between the two countries for Nepal’s development and prosperity, as well as on international platforms.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were also present on the occasion.

The relationship between the two countries is particularly close due to the historic first successful ascent of the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest, on May 29, 1953, by Nepal’s Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and New Zealand’s Sir Edmund Hillary.
