KATHMANDU: Opposition parties have obstructed the meeting of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, demanding the resignation of Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak, alleging his involvement in the visit visa scam.

Lawmakers from the opposition parties, including CPN (Maoist Centre), Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), disrupted parliamentary proceedings, insisting on Lekhak’s resignation. As a result, Speaker Devraj Ghimire adjourned the session for half an hour.

RSP lawmaker Shishir Khanal said that the obstruction would continue until a commission is formed to investigate Lekhak’s involvement in the scam.

Lekhak has been embroiled in controversy following allegations that his secretariat was involved in collecting money from Nepalis leaving the country for employment on visit visas.
