MUSTANG: The Beni-Jomsom-Korala section of the Kaligandaki Corridor Road has achieved 85% physical progress so far.

Excluding the nine additional components added in the current fiscal year, the road project has achieved 85% progress on road construction and 84% on bridge and culvert construction, according to Bishnu Chapagain, the Information Officer of the Beni-Jomsom-Korala Road Project Office.

The project went into implementation in the fiscal year 2016/17.

Chapagain added that blacktopping on seven sections and graveling on six sections of the road have been completed so far. “Blacktopping works have been completed on seven sections, including Beni-Kalipul, Kalipul-Galeshwar, Tatopani-Kaiku, Kaiku-Kobang, and Jomsom-Kagbeni. Likewise, graveling works have been completed on six sections, while work on Tsarang-Chhoser (25 km) is at the final stage,” Chapagain added.

According to Chapagain, blacktopping works have been completed on 75 km out of 100 km on the Beni-Kagbeni section, while graveling works have been completed on 90 km out of 110 km on the Kagbeni-Korala section.

“Likewise, the construction of 14 out of 19 bridges/culverts has been completed,” Chapagain said, adding that work was underway on the remaining bridges/culverts. “Nine out of the completed bridges are in Mustang district, and five are in Myagdi. The under-construction Setukhola bridge in Thasang-3 of Mustang has achieved 80% physical progress.”

Regarding graveling, Chapagain shared that the work has been completed in six phases up to Jomsom-Korala, with the 25-kilometer graveling work from Chharang-Chhoser in its final stage. He added that out of the 105 kilometers of road under contract for the Korala Highway, 75 kilometers of blacktopping have been completed.

Similarly, the project office reported that 90 out of 110 kilometers of the Jomsom-Korala road had been graveled. Out of the 19 bridges and culverts in this section, 14 have been completed, while the remaining are under construction, according to Chapagain.

Of the 14 completed bridges, nine are in the Mustang section, and five are in the Myagdi section. Chapagain mentioned that the bridge under construction over the Setu Khola in Thasang Rural Municipality-3, Mustang, is in its final stage, with 80% of the physical progress completed so far.
