Dr Baburam Bhattarai elected NSP (Naya Shakti) chairperson

KATHMANDU: Dr Baburam Bhattarai has been elected as the central chairperson of the Nepal Samajwadi Party (Naya Shakti) by a huge margin.

The first general convention of NSP (Naya Shakti), which concluded in Kathmandu on Wednesday, elected Dr Bhattarai to the position.

Out of 1,324 representatives who participated in the general convention, 882 cast their votes to elect the party’s new leadership.

According to NSP (Naya Shakti) leader Krishna Sharma, Dr Bhattarai received 682 votes while the other candidate Netra Chapagain secured 71 votes. “Although votes cast from outside the country through the online voting system are yet to be counted, Dr Bhattarai has maintained an insurmountable lead,” Sharma added.

Voting was held for 79 positions, including office bearers, of the 99-member central committee.
