KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) extended its losing rung for a third straight session on Thursday, closing 11.64 points lower at 2,699.81 points on the last trading day of the week.
With this, the benchmark index fell below the psychological 2,700-point level for the first time since January 28.
Unit prices of 160 scrips declined during the session, while 74 advanced and nine remained unchanged. Sahas Urja Ltd logged the highest turnover on Thursday with Rs 313.56 million worth of shares traded. Next were Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd and Barun Hydrpower Ltd with turnovers of Rs 222.7 million and Rs 186.97 million.
All trading groups excepted Finance, which was up by 1.58%, posted losses on Thursday. The biggest loss came from the Development Bank sub-index which was down by 1.53%.
Although the benchmark Nepse index went down on Thursday, daily turnover improved to Rs 9.24 billion with Rs 18.68 million units of shares traded through 92,326 transactions.
