KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index posted a nominal gain of 2.41 points, closing trading at 2,730 points on Monday.
Although the benchmark index went on a green trajectory right after trading began and reached an intra-day high of 2,763.98 points, it lost most of the gains as the day progressed and eventually ended the session 0.08% higher.
Share prices of 137 companies declined during the day, while 97 advanced and eight remained unchanged. NRN Infrastructure & Development logged the highest turnover of the session with Rs 353.07 million worth of shares traded. Next were Saptakoshi Development Bank Ltd and Barun Hydropower Company Ltd with turnovers of Rs 327.34 million and Rs 302.26 million, respectively.
Among trading groups, seven posted gains, while the remaining six ended the session in the red. The biggest gain came from the Non-life Insurance sub-index, which was up by 0.82%, while the Finance sub-index posted the biggest loss of 1.07%.
Daily turnover slightly fell to Rs 11.87 billion compared to Sunday, as 23.77 million units of securities changed hands through 111,918 transactions on Monday.
