ITAHARI: Public life has been affected by the transport strike in the nine eastern districts.
The strike was called in Sunsari, Morang, Jhapa, Ilam, Panchthar, Taplejung, Dhankuta, Tehrathum, and Sankhuwasabha, demanding that the cable car project in Pathibhara, Taplejung, be halted.
The Mukkumlung Conservation and Cable Car Scrapping Struggle Committee and various organizations and political parties have enforced the strike.
According to Khagendra Fembu, the coordinator of the Committee, they have been opposing the project as it aims to turn religious heritage into a commercial hub.
Local organizations argue that the construction of the cable car will destroy local culture, civilization, and the environment.
Tensions escalated after a clash between two groups last Saturday in Baludanda, located about a kilometer above Kaflepate. During the clash, four people were seriously injured.
