KATHMANDU: CPN-UML has expelled its former Vice Chairperson Bhim Rawal from the party’s general membership.
A meeting of the party’s Secretariat held on Wednesday took the decision.
The meeting also suspended Standing Committee member Binda Pandey and Central Committee member Ushakiran Timlisina for six months.
According to Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali, Rawal was expelled for consistently acting against party interests and disobeying directives.
Rawal was defeated by KP Sharma Oli in the election for the position of chairperson in the party’s 10th general convention held in Chitwan in 2021.
After the defeat, the party had offered the position of vice chairperson to Rawal. However, Rawal declined the offer. He was also not performing his responsibility as adviser of the party. “The party decided to expel him since he did not perform any party responsibility,” Gyawali said.
Pandey and Timlisina were suspended for protesting the party’s decision to accept a land donation from Bhat-Bhateni Super Market owner Min Bahadur for party office construction.
