KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index shed 9.99 points and closed trading at 2,738.06 points on Sunday.
Although the benchmark index shed more than 50 points within minutes of the beginning of trading, it recovered most of the losses as the day progressed but still ended the session 0.36% lower.
Share prices of 178 companies declined during the session, while 63 advanced and three remained unchanged. Five companies, including four development banks, saw their share prices hit a positive circuit of 10% during the session.
Excel Development Bank Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session with Rs 343.14 million worth of shares traded. Next were NRN Infrastructure & Development and Nepal Finance Ltd with turnovers of Rs 289.03 million and Rs 280.60 million, respectively.
Among trading groups, three posted gains, while the remaining 10 went down. Trading sub-index logged the highest gain of 9.07%. Similarly, the biggest loss came from Finance sub-index which was down by 2.96%. Banking sub-index was also down 1.47%.
Securities worth Rs 8.83 billion were traded on the bourse through 82,602 transactions on Sunday.
