UML’s Bidhya Bhattarai reelected from Kaski-2

KATHMANDU: Bidhya Bhattarai of CPN-UML has been reelected to the House of Representatives from Kaski-2 constituency.

According to the Election Commission, Bhattarai received 16,998 votes while her closest contender Madhav Prasad Kandel of Rastriya Swatantra Party got 12,495 votes.

Shreenath Baral of CPN (Unified Socialist) – the common candidate of the five-party ruling coalition – polled 9,659 votes.

Born in Sindhupalchowk district, Bidhya is the spouse of late UML leader Rabindra Adhikari who was elected from Kaski-2 in 2017. Adhikari died in a tragic helicopter in Taplejung district on February 27, 2019.

UML fielded Bidhya in the byelection in Kaski-2 constituency which was vacated due to Adhikari’s demise. She defeated Khem Raj Paudel of Nepali Congress by more than 8,000 votes.
