KATHMANDU: The government has decided to open 57 more peaks for commercial expeditions.

A cabinet meeting held on Monday took the decision as proposed by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Government Spokesperson and Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, said on Tuesday.

The height of these peaks ranges from 5,807 meters to 6,868 meters above sea level. The smallest peak on the list is Lunadhar Kang (5,807m) in the Damodar Himal range in Mustang district, while the highest is Pathibhara East (6,868m) in the Kanchenjunga Himal range in Taplejung district.

Fourteen of these peaks are in Mustang district, while 11 are in Taplejung, 10 in Dolpha, six in Mugu, five in Solukhumbu, four in Humla, three in Dolakha, and one each in Rasuwa and Gorkha.

With this, the number of peaks opened for commercial expeditions has reached 476. They include all the 8,000-meter peaks, including the world’s tallest peak Mt Everest, and most of the 7,000-meter peaks.
