Nepse extends gains, closes 37.13 points higher

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended gains for a second straight session, closing 37.13 points higher at 2,690.72 points on Monday.

The benchmark index breached the 2,700-point level four times during the session but failed to hold its position.

Share prices of 176 companies advanced during the session, while 66 declined and two remained unchanged. Chandragiri Hills Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session with Rs 262.31 million worth of shares traded. NRN Infrastructure & Development and Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd followed with turnovers of Rs 241.19 million and Rs 237.83 million, respectively.

Sub-indices of two groups — Finance and Manufacturing & Processing — ended in the red, while 11 others posted gains on Monday. The biggest gain came from the Hotels & Tourism sub-index, which was up 3.5%. Next were the Others and Banking sub-indices, which went up by 2.61% and 1.9%, respectively.

Daily turnover improved to Rs 7.09 billion from Rs 6.86 billion on Sunday.
