KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index surged by a whopping 4.57%, or 114.70 points, on Tuesday as Finance, Investment, Hydropower, and Development stocks logged significant gains. rallied. The benchmark index, which breached the 2,500-point level on Monday, closed at 2,623.56 points during the session.
All sub-indices posted gains on the day. The Finance sub-index gained 9.74 points, while Investment, Hydropower, and Hotels & Tourism were up by 6.1%, 5.98%, and 5.97%, respectively.
Such was the buying pressure on the bourse that the share prices of 18 companies hit the positive circuit of 10%, while 18 others closed about 9% higher during the session.
Share prices of 243 companies advanced, while only one declined. NLG Insurance logged the highest turnover of the session with Rs 288.28 million worth of shares traded. Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd and Nepal Finance Ltd followed with turnovers of Rs 235.1 million and Rs 207.21 million, respectively.
Daily turnover increased significantly to Rs 7.61 billion through 96,906 transactions.
