KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index snapped a two-day losing streak and posted a gain of 49.18 points on Wednesday.
Although the benchmark index dipped initially, it recovered and eventually ended the session 1.99% higher at 2,519.57 points.
Unit prices of 223 scrips advanced on the day, while 18 declined, and three remained unchanged. Share prices of five companies hit the positive circuit of 10% during the session.
Hydropower stocks topped the turnover list on Wednesday. Ngadi Group Power Ltd logged the highest turnover with Rs 156.41 million worth of shares traded. Following were Arun Valley Hydropower Company Ltd and CEDB Hydropower Company Ltd with turnovers of Rs 135.47 million and Rs 130.70 million, respectively.
Among trading groups, all but the Mutual Fund sub-index, which posted a nominal loss of 0.01%, ended the session in the green. The biggest gain came from the Finance sub-index, which was up by 3.8%. Next were the Hotels & Tourism and Development Bank sub-indices, which were up by 3.5% and 2.75%, respectively. The market heavyweight Banking sub-index was also up by 1.8%.
Daily turnover, however, fell to Rs 4.81 billion on Wednesday, compared to Rs 5.53 billion on Tuesday.
