I am prepared to be detained, but for the right reasons: Lamichhane

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has said that he is ready to support the ongoing investigation into the misuse of cooperative savings.

During a Facebook Live session on Tuesday evening, Lamichhane said he would accept all the actions recommended by the Parliamentary Special Investigation Committee on the Misuse of Cooperative Savings.

“The parliamentary investigation panel has already stated that I am not involved in cooperative fraud. I am ready to take responsibility for my share of the money that came to the institution (Gorkha Media Network) during my tenure,” Lamichhane said. “There is no need for a media trial over this. I am prepared to be detained or arrested if necessary, but for the right reasons—not through deception and conspiracy.”

Lamichhane also said he was being subjected to a biased media trial. He further urged an investigation into the misappropriation of Rs 87 billion in cooperative savings. “While pursuing one individual to safeguard the political future of certain people, the victims of the cooperative scandal have been denied justice,” he said.

He also called on his supporters and well-wishers to remain ‘alert’. “If the government acts unjustly, please stay vigilant. You don’t need to come to my defense, but be watchful for the return of savings to the cooperative victims,” he added.
