Contracts to upgrade Kamala-Bagmati section of East-West Highway awarded

KATHMANDU: The Department of Roads (DoR) has awarded contracts to upgrade the Kamala-Dhalkebar-Bagmati section of the East-West Highway into four lanes.

The DoR has split the road section into three parts and awarded contracts accordingly.

The 22-kilometer segment westward from the Kamala River of Siraha has been awarded to EKK Infrastructure Ltd of Kerala, India, for Rs 5.79 billion.

Similarly, two segments of 29 kilometers and 23 kilometers have been awarded to the joint venture of Chinese company SWEG and Nepali company Rasuwagadhi Construction Company for Rs 6.43 billion and Rs 6.72 billion, respectively.

The contractors will have to complete the work in three years.

The DoR is upgrading the East-West Highway under the Strategic Road Connectivity and Trade Improvement Project.
