KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has sought clarification from its suspended General Secretary Dr Mukul Dhakal on why he should not be expelled from the party’s general membership.
Acting General Secretary Kabindra Burlakoti wrote a letter to Dr Dhakal on Wednesday, asking him to provide reasons and evidence as to why he should not be expelled from general membership of the party.
Dhakal has been given 24 hours to furnish his clarification.
“After being removed from the positions of General Secretary, Spokesperson and Central Committee Member, you were given time to appeal to the party’s Appeal Committee as per Article 57 of the party constitution if you found the action against you unreasonable. However, instead of making the appeal, you have continuously engaged in making false accusations that tarnish the image, honor and prestige of the party and its leaders, spreading baseless propaganda, inciting party members and well-wishers and creating confusion within the party,” he letter written by Burlakoti states. “During this time, we have received information that you have met with leaders of other parties in a conspiracy to destroy the party. Given this background of your continued planned activities against the party, why should you not be expelled from basic membership of the party?”
RSP, on July 9, relieved Dhakal of all party responsibilities, giving him 35 days to appeal for a review of the decision as per the party constitution. Before that, the party had suspended Dhakal for a week after he shared the findings of his study report with the media before presenting it to the party.
