KATHMANDU: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Ajay Kumar Chaurasiya, has urged for discussions on the transitional justice bill so that it can be presented in the upcoming meeting of the House of Representatives.

Speaking in the meeting of the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Minister Chaurasiya requested members of the committee to proceed with presenting the bill in the House of Representatives meeting scheduled for August 13. “We need to conclude discussions on the Bill to Amend the Enforced Disappearances Enquiry, Truth and Reconciliation Commission Act also because the lower house has been lacking business,” Chaurasiya said.

The bill was registered in the parliament in August 2023. The three major parties – Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML, and CPN (Maoist Center) – forged consensus on contentious issues in the bill last week.

Chaurasiya also said he would spare no effort to forge consensus among parties on the Bill to Amend Some Nepal Acts.

The committee had put discussions on the bill concerning legislative provisions on the agenda for Tuesday. However, committee members have suggested discussing other bills only after concluding the two crucial bills.
