SUDURPASHCHIM: Chief Minister of Sudurpashchim Province, Dirgha Bahadur Sodari, is set to seek a vote of confidence on Friday.
According to Yuvaraj Jaisi, the information officer of the Sudurpashchim Province Assembly Secretariat, Speaker Bhim Bahadur Bhandari has scheduled the provincial assembly meeting for 4 pm on Friday for Chief Minister Sodari’s trust vote.
Sodari’s government fell in the minority following the withdrawal of support by CPN-UML after the party formed a new ruling alliance with the Nepali Congress in the center. As per the constitution, the Chief Minister must undergo a floor test within 30 days of losing support in the province assembly.
The province government has not been able to pass the budget for fiscal year 2024/25 as the UML exited the government while the budget was under discussion in the province assembly. As a result, the provincial government’s activities, including revenue collection and expenditure, have been affected since July 16.
Following UML’s exit, Sodari attempted to introduce the budget through an ordinance and recommended ending the budget session in the last week of June.
As the government tried to bring the budget through an ordinance, the opposition parties UML and Nepali Congress demanded a special session of the province assembly by submitting a written request to the Provincial Chief.
The special session, called by the Provincial Chief, convened for two days but was postponed on the third day due to the absence of ministers.
Chief Minister Sodari had dismissed Minister for Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives Tika Thapa for attending the special session called by the opposition parties.
