KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Center) Deputy General Secretary, Hariboi Gajurel, has proposed that all office-bearers of the party should immediately resign from their positions.

Gajurel made this proposal during a recent meeting of the party’s office-bearers held in Kathmandu. He made the proposal to protest violations of the party system and procedures by the top leaders.

Speaking at the meeting on Monday, Gajurel reminded the leaders about the party’s constitution. “According to the constitution passed by the party’s 8th general convention, only one-third of the standing committee members can become party office-bearers. We are 21 now, which is against the party constitution,” Gajurel told Himal Press. “I have not tendered my resignation yet. But I have suggested that we should rectify these activities that go against the party constitution. I don’t know about others, but I will resign.”

Gajurel said he has already sought party Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s permission to step down. Gajurel also presented a six-point proposal in the meeting. Dahal, however, did not present Gajurel’s proposal for discussion in the meeting. The former Prime Minister addressed most of the concerns raised by the party office-bearers on Tuesday but did not comment on Gajurel’s proposal.

Gajurel previously served as the Political Adviser to Dahal when he was the Prime Minister. He, however, resigned from that position, alleging that Dahal was not consulting with him and that he felt he was no longer needed.

The Maoist Center is holding its standing committee meeting on August 9.
